When we mentioned Zhangjiajie, most expats didn't even know where it was. Neither did the Chinese, but that;s because we can't actually pronounce the name properly. It's supposedly the place where James Cameron got his inspiration for the 'Avatar' movie. There's no mention of this by James Cameron, but the Chinese are sticking to the story. Beautiful high peaks and lovely greenery and little pollution make this a superb place to visit. And the Chinese have engineered the place amazingly with cable cars (including the world's longest at 29 mins), amazing roads cut into the sides of mountains and holes drilled through mountains for escalators.

Our trip. By Charlie.
After about a week, we finally met up with the Burdens. We stayed in a great hotel called 'The Outside Inn.' We also made a cool friend called Sam from Scotland. We went for a bike ride to a place where you can go rafting. After that we bike rode to the Golden Cave, I think this is the wrong name for it but I'm not sure. When my parents and everybody else went for a cooking class, I went to a dam with Rory Burden, Ben Turner, Scott Turner and Gary Burden. I had a great time until I went through a suction hole! Luckily two Chinese men jumped in the water and saved me! Apparently one of the two men had his son go through the same suction hole! I also went rock climbing on natural mountains! it was very difficult but a lot of fun! Then I guess we had to say good bye to everybody. |
Ping'An is a mountain town out of Longji. It's in a national park and is only accessible by walking. There are no cars or bikes.
It's beautifully quiet and relaxing. How's the serenity? |
